Company Story

Life Juggling was created out of the varied experiences and interests of founder Luke, and his recognition that juggling can help create a mindset that is useful in our everyday lives; it is okay to drop the ball and learn from our mistakes. Luke’s philosophy is that laughter and connecting with others is vitally important for our wellbeing.

Background

Luke was a national standard pole vaulter for over 8 years and completed a BSc(Hons) Sports Coaching degree helping others to reach their sporting potential. Due to injury he had to step away from competitive sport, so he developed his other passion, training at ALRA drama school where he received his MA in Professional Acting. The years he spent studying weren’t always easy and he found the pressure in both fields difficult and isolating. His dyslexia meant that he struggled to see where he would ‘fit in’ in the world and didn’t know where life would take him.

Luckily, his curiosity in performance in its many forms led him to do a clowning workshop where he realised that a clown’s philosophy was to celebrate ‘failure’. In fact, clowns purposefully ‘fail,’ to bring joy to an audience, as well as create a sense of connection. This resonated with Luke and he created and performed his own solo clown show, ‘Come Fly with Fred’.

He has also worked closely with the charity The Flying Seagull Project, facilitating high energy play and circus workshops in refugee camps across Europe and the Middle East. This led him to complete his Diploma in Transformational Life Coaching where he works with clients on turning their ideas into actions. Also his work has consisted of delivering the National Diabetes Prevention Programme supporting people through group coaching sessions to make healthy lifestyle adjustments to improve their health and wellbeing.

The amalgamation of Luke’s love of juggling, coaching, clowning, performing and workshop facilitation, mixed with the desire to improve people’s mental health and overcome self-doubt is the driving force behind Life Juggling.

Why Juggling?

Luke soon realised there are other benefits to juggling than simply having a fun skill. These include relieving stress, improving hand-eye coordination and balance, motor skills and building concentration and confidence. Juggling has been scientifically proven to increase grey matter and help strengthen brain cell connections.

The rhythmic nature of juggling can be calming, creating a meditative state while being more present in our bodies. Solo juggling helps with decision making, persistence and pushing your own boundaries; you are in control of what you juggle and what tricks you want to try. Partner juggling is a shared experience incorporating collaboration and problem solving.

Juggling has become a big part of Luke’s personal and professional life and he’s found that teaching it has been a great way to meet people and form connections in any environment. Wherever he is juggling he will usually be approached by others wanting to learn or join in and this has given him the self-belief to develop his own company.
